Mike Tobias is a producer, poet, and playwright who loves creating characters who struggle to find their identity in an age of unrealism. He studied playwriting and vocal performance at the University of North Texas, writing his first play The Cello through the program.
After settling in Los Angeles, he co-created and executive produced his first project, Buffering, a satirical meta-comedy about creating your own web series. Brad Ausrotas of Geeky News wrote: “Buffering has everything you could want from a web series: it’s smart, funny, and intriguing.” In 2016, Mike wrote and co-developed American Dynasty, a story about inseparable siblings who struggle to find themselves in the shadow of their mother’s artistic legacy. Featuring an Asian American cast, the short film was screened at Asian American film festivals across the country and joined the conversation of representation in film. The Largo Film Awards gave Mike and his co-writer Leah Clark Best Screenplay, calling it a “daring and written-from-the-heart drama.”
Mike Tobias released a collection of poetry, A Place Where Runaways Hide, and shares new poems and readings via Instagram. He’s excited to help Gray Studios and the Make-A-Movie Camps team develop story ideas.
